Discover Yayoi Ken: Affordable & Authentic Japanese Meals Across Japan

Let's Talk About Yayoi Ken — Your Best Friend for Meals Across Japan

Japanese restaurant Yayoi Ken, known for traditional meals, seen from the street.
What’s on the menu? Today we're talking about Yayoi Ken, a popular restaurant chain that offers a wide variety of meals with great nutritional balance. You'll find locations all over Japan, so it can accompany you throughout your trip.

You can find the nearest restaurant here, but honestly, it's even easier to just open Google Maps and type “Yayoiken near me” — that should do the trick.

Most meals come as a set combo, typically including a main dishmiso souptofupickles, and rice — a well-rounded and filling option.

Here’s an example: In this photo, we have fried chicken with a croquette and salad, all for just 790 yen — way cheaper than grabbing something at 7-Eleven, right? 😮

Self-service Perks
Inside the restaurant, there’s a
free water and tea dispenser where you can help yourself as many times as you want.
And here’s my favorite part: they also have an unlimited rice dispenser! 🍚🍚🍚

Something for Everyone
The menu includes a variety of protein options:
Pork
Chicken
Fish
Beef
Soy-based meat for vegetarians

How to Order It's super easy. At the entrance, you'll find self-service machines. If you don’t speak Japanese, no worries — you can switch the language to English. You’ll see pictures of all the dishes, which really helps when choosing what to eat. Once you’ve made your decision, it’s time to pay — also simple. They accept cash, cards, and several other payment methods. Don’t forget to take your ticket from the machine — the staff will ask for it when seating you. ⚠️ Important note: Even if you see an empty table, don’t seat yourself. A staff member will guide you to a seat after asking how many people are in your group.

Need Help with Chopsticks?
If you’re not confident using chopsticks, don’t stress — I’ve seen other foreigners ask for a fork. (Though I definitely recommend trying chopsticks to really dive into Japanese culture! 🥢🥢)

Don’t Miss Breakfast They also serve breakfast from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and it's even cheaper, with full meals for under 500 yen. 🪙

I hope you enjoy your trip and eat deliciously along the way! Save this info — and share it with your fellow travelers!
