Affordable and Comfortable Stays in Japan: Why Toyoko Inn Might Be Your Best Bet

Hey travelers, how’s it going?

There’s a lot of talk about staying at Airbnbs, capsule hotels, and other budget options to save money — but are they really that cheap?

Honestly, not always. Airbnbs are getting more expensive and strict, usually don’t offer extra services, and are often located pretty far from main spots. 😓
Capsule hotels are similar — prices used to be low, but with more tourists wanting that “capsule experience,” prices have shot up. Plus, they generally don’t offer many extras and the space... well, it’s super tiny. 😒

That’s why today I want to bring up business hotels. There are tons all over Japan, so you’ve got lots of choices, but I want to focus on one called Toyoko Inn. After comparing it with others on the market, it gave us the best balance between price, quality, services, safety, and more.

Staying at this hotel has many perks, including locations all over Japan — you can stay with them in Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, and more.
Price-wise, as I said, it’s one of the most affordable hotels in Japan. Usually, when we hear “affordable,” we think low quality — but that’s not the case in Japan. These hotels may not be huge, but they perfectly deliver a clean, comfy, and safe place to spend the night.

How to get the best price? 👀

It’s simple. First, you need to book directly on their website, which is available in several languages. I recommend using English because there’s more useful info. For example, I found a plan called “Eco-friendly stay” — under this, staff won’t enter your room to make beds or take out trash for up to 4 nights, but they’ll leave fresh towels every night in a bag at your door.

You can also get a Toyoko Inn Club membership card on their site, and believe it or not, this card gets you a 5% discount every night you stay at their hotels.
Let’s try an example: booking for 5 nights starting November 11, 2024, at the Toyoko Inn Tokyo Ueno Tawaramachi-eki (one of their Tokyo hotels), for two adults.
The regular price is 55,000 yen for the five nights, but if you book directly on their website, choose the “Eco-friendly stay” plan, and are a Toyoko Inn Club member, the price drops to 51,300 yen — that’s 10,260 yen per night, or just 5,130 yen per person. 😊😊

Plus, they offer services other options don’t, like:

  • Free breakfast. (Imagine how much you save on breakfast!) 💸💸💸

  • In the room: safe, kettle, fridge, air conditioning, etc.

  • In the lobby: pajamas, toothbrushes, shower caps, and more.

  • You can leave your luggage before check-in time.

  • Some Toyoko Inns even have shuttle buses to and from major stations (check their website).
